I joined the 451 Social Media team back when we were a mere team of two. Back before Pinterest was even a thing. Now, as the VP of Social Media and Influencer Relations at Agency 451 (I know, I know my title is ridiculously long), I’m so proud of how much our social team has grown and how many incredible initiatives we’ve been a part of. Also, how many cups of coffee we drink, colored pens for to-do list writing we own, and debates about trends in social media we have.
I didn’t always know I wanted to work in social media because social media wasn’t always an option. I just knew I wanted to write. Immediately after obtaining my Bachelor’s degree, I went to grad school to get my Master’s degree in publishing and writing with dreams of working as an editor at a big fiction publishing house. Then, too many people told me that if I became an editor, I would start to hate reading and writing for fun. So, I went into marketing instead. And guess what? I still love reading, writing, and Instagram.
If you ask anyone for one fun fact about me, they’ll tell you I have a food blog. I started We are not Martha in 2008 and am still cooking, baking, photographing, and writing for it today. People always ask me what I like to cook or bake the most and I give a different answer every time, so now I’m locking it down on the 451 website forever: My favorite thing to make is pesto. Is that weird? There’s just something about the process of blending all of the fragrant ingredients together watching them form a vibrant green sauce that I could and would put on anything (I was going to utilize a metaphor comparing making pesto to building social media strategy, but I’m going to spare you). My favorite thing to eat is and will likely always be cupcakes. I don’t care how 2007 that is.
I think I’m a pretty smart person, so I can’t really explain why I watch shows like The Bachelor (any and all versions, but especially “In Paradise”) and 90-Day Fiancé (a show so bad, you probably have never even heard of it). But lucky for you and the rest of the world, I only tweet about it sparingly. The rest of my social media content is filled with cupcakes, doughnuts, and pesto.
